Terms and conditions

 

1 Pupil Responsibility:

    1.1    It is your responsibility to have a valid UK provisional/full driving licence which must be shown to the instructor at the time of your first driving lesson.

1.2    You must log on to gov.uk and “share driving licence information” in order to generate a “Check code” which must be given to your instructor prior to your first driving lesson.

1.3    You must inform your instructor immediately if you receive any endorsements on your licence during the period you are receiving tuition.

1.4    You must inform your instructor if there is a change to your health which may invalidate your licence, ie. any condition which the DVLA deem necessary to declare when applying for a licence. Eg. epilepsy.

1.5    You must wear glasses or contact lenses every time you drive if you need them to meet the “standards of vision for driving”,  be able to read a number plate from 20.5m away.

1.6    You must bring with to all lessons, your appointment card in order for payment record can be updated.

1.7    To be punctual for lessons. If you foresee a problem, then contact your Instructor as soon as possible. Refer to point 5.6

2    Instructor Responsibility:

    2.1    Your instructor is a fully qualified  ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) in accordance with the DVSA (Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency).

    2.2    A Criminal Record Check is conducted every 4 years on renewal of ADI badge.

    2.3    Your Instructor’s ADI Green Badge must be displayed in the windscreen of the tuition vehicle at all times when lessons are conducted.

    2.4    Your instructor will be  courteous, polite, tidy and punctual, behaving in a professional and ethical manner.

    2.5    The car will be clean and tidy and well maintained, also fitted with dual controls with appropriate motor insurance for the purpose of delivering driving tuition.

    2.6    The tuition vehicle is a No Smoking zone.

    2.7    Your instructors primary objective is to promote Road Safety and in doing so, they may take control of the vehicle. Your instructor will make every effort to instruct the pupil to the highest of standards but can in no way, be held liable for any errors that you may make whilst driving and not accompanied by the instructor, either before or after passing the driving test.

    2.8    Your instructor will endeavour to teach you the correct driving skills according to the recommended syllabus issued by DVSA within the minimum number of lessons required.

    2.9    Your instructor is at liberty, at their absolute discretion, to refuse to proceed with a lesson, if they have reason to believe you are in any way, under the influence of drink or drugs at the time of your lesson.

3.    Driving Lessons:

    3.1    A driving lesson will be a minimum duration of 1 Hour.

    3.2    All lessons will start at a pre arranged pick up point. Any change to this must be requested at least 12 hours in advance of the lesson. Your request may not be able to be fulfilled due to the location of the lesson prior to yours. Likewise, all lessons will end  at the pre arranged drop off point. Any change to this must be requested before the start of the lesson. Your request may not be able to be fulfilled due to the location of the following lesson. It may be possible, but at your cost, in that the lesson may have to finish early to allow time for the Instructor to get to the next lesson on time. Any time lost will not be added to a later lesson.

3.3    Lessons are conducted on a one to one basis and no other pupils will be in the car during your lesson.

3.4    If you wish to have a passenger present during your lesson to observe your progress in the interest of furthering  your development, you must request this at least 24hours in advance.

    3.5    Your Instructor may request at least 24 hours in advance, on occasion, for a third party to be present in the car as part of their own personal development.

4.    Pricing and Payment of lessons:

    4.1    Your instructor reserves the right to change lesson prices at any time, giving no less than 14 days notice.

    4.2    Payment must be made at the start of the lesson.

    4.3    If you do not have funds available at the beginning of the lesson, the offer of driving to a cash machine will be made, this will be part of your lesson time. If no funds are available that day, then no lesson will be conducted and you will be charged in accordance with rule  5.2 under cancellation of lessons.

4.3    Payment of Block bookings are to be paid for in full, before the start of the first lesson.

4.4    Payment can be made by cash, cheque (made payable to Sarah Harris) or via Bacs payment (details on request).

4.5    All payments will be recorded on your appointment card.

4.6    All block booking payments will receive a separate written receipt.

5.    Cancellation/Non attendance of lessons:

    5.1    At least 48 hours notice must be given to cancel a prearranged lesson.

    5.2    If less than 48 hours notice is given you may be subject to a late cancellation charge, equal to that of the lesson scheduled. However,

5.3    If the instructor is able to fill the pre allocated slot with another pupil, then no charge will be incurred.

5.4    If you are able to re-schedule that lesson within the week and the instructor’s availability, then no charge will be incurred. However,

5.5    Those rescheduled lessons, if cancelled will be charged at the full lesson price.

5.6    If your Instructor arrives at the re arranged pick up point and is unable to make contact with you, they will wait 15 minutes before terminating the lesson. You will then be charged for the full price of the lesson.

6.    Refund policy:

        You are entitled to cancel prepaid tuition at any time. You will be refunded  by the same method of payment with which you made the original payment for the amount of unused lessons/test fee. The lessons taken will be charged at the full hourly cost, with remainder repaid to student

Eg 10 hours pre booked =£310

Cancelled after 4 hours have been taken

4hrs at £32 per hour = £128  Refund = £310 - £128 leaving £182 to be refunded.

7    Practical Driving Test:

    7.1    You must have the agreement of your instructor to book a practical driving test. Your Instructor reserves the right to withhold the driving school car for the purpose of the test, if in their opinion, you are not ready for your test or if you pose a danger to the examiner or other road users, or if they instructor/car is unavailable due to prior commitments.

    7.2    In the event of the driving school car being unavailable on the day of the practical test for reasons of illness on your instructor’s part or for reasons of mechanical failure, your instructor will refund the test fee incurred by you.

    7.3    in the event of the practical test being cancelled by the DVSA, it is normal for them to refund the fee or to re-arrange a test date. However the time allocated for the use of the tuition car will still require payment. A claim can be made to the DVSA for this expense.

    7.4    Please note, that in the event of you booking your practical test, the DVSA stipulate that you need to give 3 clear working days to cancel your test. Failure to do so will result in the loss of your fee.

7.5    The fee paid to the DVSA for your test DOES NOT include the cost of the lesson prior to the test or the use of the car during the test. This is a minimum of a 2 hour session which is payable to your instructor prior to the test

 

Complaint Procedure

    If you have a complaint regarding your instructor, in the first instance it is best to try and resolve the issue in person. If you feel unable to do this you can make a complaint in writing to SLHdriving@gmail.com  If you still do not feel the issue has been resolved to your satisfaction please refer to the

 ADI Code of Practice  which can be found on the direct.gov website.
